The Road So Far
Stitches-N-Britches founder Kristin Anderson opened the shop in October 2012, to the community of McKinleyville, offering a wide range of sewing services in an easily accessible location. Kristin had a vision to offer not only alteration services like hemming pants but also mend/give extended life to cloth items with rips and holes. she felt strongly about offering this service in McKinleyville where sewing services were hard to find. For 13 years she served the community at large, with customers coming from all corners of the county, as well as some from even further out. She built a business that members of the community have come to treasure the services and quality of work that she offered throughout the years.
In early 2024, Kristin found out that she was going to become a grandmother for the first time. she started thinking about making plans to move closer to her family in “in a couple of years”, but had been wondering how she could find some one to continue running Stitches-N-Britches with the same level of skill and quality the community had come to expect, after she left the area,
It is around this time that Kristin met Kelley McAbee. Kelley had a background in general sewing, professional garment production, costuming, and figuring out how to “Just Make it Work”, and was looking to get back in to professional sewing, after a sizable hiatus. When Kelley showed up with a resume in hand, Kristin realized that she has found the right kind of person to take over the shop.
Over the next few months, Kelley and Kristin talked regularly, laying the foundation for the eventual change of owner. Then In October of 2024, Kristin’s grand child arrived. She went up to Washington State to visit her new grand baby, and upon arriving back home she announced that she was going to be moving to Washington State as soon as possible.
She and Kelley worked tirelessly to get their respective ducks in a row. After 4 short months Kelley officially became the new owner of Stitches-N-Britches, and Kristin successfully planed her roots in Washington State.
It has been a crazy bumpy ride, but Kelley is dedicated to offering the same quality service to the members of Humboldt County (and beyond),
Thank you for choosing Stitches-N-Britches for your alteration needs!
